#31. Always carry a book.

A book is the best accessory you can carry.  It took me too many subway rides, waiting rooms, and early arrivals to understand this.  A book will transport you out of sweaty subway cars and muffle crying babies, I promise.  More importantly, reading makes the best use of daily unavoidable downtime like lonely lunches or business meetings.

Wrapping your brain around a good book will make you a more interesting person.  That’s another promise.

If you don’t carry a bag, shove it in your back pocket.  There is little cooler than a rolled up old classic sticking out of your jeans.

Remember, smart is cool.
